Definition:
Bitumen also called asphalt or tar, black or brown in colour. It is derived from vacuum distillation of crude.
It is non-crystalline solid or viscous material with adhesive properties.
Bitumen is marketed in wide range of grade ranging from soft to hard.
Uses:
- Widely used in road construction industry.
- Used as a raw material in the manufacture of waterproofing products.
- Used in coatings and sealants manufacturing industry.
- Used in special application like printing inks, lubricants, electric cable etc.
